Training, Inc.
Every "body" has a weak link. That link leads to dysfunction in the kinetic chain. Muscle imbalances insue and interfere with optimal performance.
Muscles imbalances are caused by :
Injury
Postural Stress
Poor technical skill
Lack of core strength
Cummulative trauma
Lack of neuromuscular
control
Immobilization / bracing splinting
Poor recovery post activity

."It is a rare thing thing to find someone consistently performing well who is using their muscles inefficiently"
OPT utilizes all traditional training and evaluative techniques... but what makes us stand out from the rest is our ability to be precise in what is preventing advances in performance or return to activity post injury. OPT evaluates and trains muscular efficiency, respiratory efficiency and mental efficiency. Simply stated how you move, breathe and think. (as it relates to your performance)
Efficient movement patterns result in improved performance. Efficient movement is the result of optimal neuromuscular efficiency.....which is exactly what OPT specializes in evaluating and training....Learning to move and breathe efficiently and control the effects of the mind on the body is useful to all individuals; not just athletes.
The skills utilized to cope with the stress of competition are indeed similar to those all individuals need to be successful in every arena of life ..... from the playing field, to the classroom, to the office, to sitting in traffic.
At OPT we know the skills acquired for improved performance in sport will transfer to all aspects of life....the benefits of gaining the motor control and mind control necessary for the body to perform together in an outstanding manner is inherent in our philosophy that you are not gaining only skills for sport but skills for life.
S- EMG (electromyography) is a non-invasive tool that helps evaluate and train muscles. Basically it provides feedback on whether a muscle is turning on/off when it should , and if it is working too hard or not hard enough. In other words ...is it working efficiently? Utilized in combination with traditional training this approach results in outstanding motor control, improved performance and decreased pain..It is an effective tool for evaluating and training muscle imbalances which is often a major factor in kinetic chain dysfunction which limits optimal performance. (see EMG data link )
RESPIRATION biofeedback facilitates optimum breathing that is critical to performance not only because of its obvious purpose, but because of its vital role in functional relaxation ....which is key to peak performance. Learning to use the diaphragm efficiently and reduce the role of chest and shoulder breathing as well as controlling the rate of respiration is critical to performing well under stress.
MENTAL development completes the training paradigm and addresses the mental aspects inherent to success in life as well as sport. It includes, but is not limited to functional relaxation, positive thinking, visualization, and cognitive restructuring. Effective visualization skills can decrease the heavy impact on joints and muscles associated with new skill acquisition and performance consistency. A very underutilized but powerful tool in learning faster, reducing injuries and performing well. When done well, it accomplishes engraining motor patterns in the brain without the physical load.. so while the muscles may need rest and recovery continued skill acquisition can be occurring through visualization. Additionally, an un-harnessed mind can wreak havoc on the performance of the best trained bodies. Learning to focus effectively and control performance anxiety improves the consistency of specific skills as well as overall performance.
INJURY PREVENTION assessesments determine if you are using the proper body mechanics and movement patterns to reduce the likelihood of injury. (Please see injury prevention link)
