The body has an amazing ability to adapt and compensate for things which are barriers to performance such as pain, flexibility, strength, joint stability, postural deficits etc. and will do so whether or not these things or innate or acquired. And while this can be beneficial in the short run... in the long run left unchecked the postural adaptations, muscle imbalances, increased load to the joints etc. will result in inefficient muscle activity, chronic nagging injuries, decreased power, further loss of flexibility, agility and ultimately impacts the way you move and how you compete.

Can you think of an athlete that has finished out the game, the season; in pain.... with out full motion?? Who ends up with additional pain/injuries later on?

Here is a simple analogy to consider... you certainly can race a car while out of alignment and get from point A to B; but you probably won't win the race ! It won't be an easy trip, steering will take alot of energy to avoid pulling to one side ...forcing you to sacrifice speed for control ...your car may vibrate/wobble and your tires will wear unevenly and need to be replaced prematurely... but you will get there..
.The same can be said for your body. You can stay in the game with muscle imbalances, lack of flexibility, postural defecits, inadequate strength for your sport etc. You can struggle with your body to keep it from wobbling, try to get it to run faster with a "bad alignment", repair its' broken parts and keep trying to make it perform better under these constraints.... but you probably won't win... or perform consistently. More importantly, if you're running your body inefficiently; unlike a car your body parts are not as easily repaired or replaced...
